This work reinterprets and rethinks each of the Five Elements—Metal, Wood, Fire, Water, and Earth—from a contemporary perspective. Of the Five Elements, Metal is the one most akin to what we would today call energy. Therefore, the artists have chosen to allow it to “exist” among other natural forms of energy.
This work uses mirrors or reflective lenses associated with the element of Metal as an intermediary to reflect, transmit, or sublimate various forms of energy, allowing them to circulate within the Five Elements. In light of today’s global energy crisis, this work seeks to return to the wisdom of our forebears and transform our understanding of energy into a deeper awareness of the endless cycle of life, nature, and energy.
