“Home”represents a state of harmony and refers to the way in which the 52nd Engineering Regiment brings stability to those areas where it is deployed. During wartime the corps has more immediate tasks, but during times of peace it assists local residents to build homes. For example, in the aftermath of the 921 Earthquake in 1999, army corps engineers were on the frontline dealing with the devastation of the disaster and protecting people’s homes. The inspiration for “Home” comes from images of army engineers engaged in such tasks and the work is like a large tree with mountain ranges and rivers below its branches. It is by “building roads across the mountains and bridges over rivers” that the piece conveys a state of harmonious existence.
