The work, Fairy Meadows, is a topographic depiction of the river ecosystem in Mayuantou (today’s West District, Taichung) covering its geographic history, nature and culture. The colored relief sculpture transports the riverbank vegetation to a different dimension. Elements of the plants like Taiwanese rain trees, Madagascar Almonds, Hong Kong Orchid Trees, Golden Spotted Leafs and Azaleas are re-assembled, stacked, silhouetted, strung together or placed in succession. Imageries of the previous Mayuantou River landscape are also integrated to strengthen the site as a point of convergence. This public artwork interweaves nature, culture and sunshine to highlight Taichung’s characteristic image as a city of flowers.
